i'm lester holt reporting from new york. for all of us here at nbc news, good night. >>> "nbc bay area news" starts now. >>> good evening. i'm diane dwyer. we begin in san francisco tonight where an apartment fire injured at least eight people including six firefighters. stephanie is in the mission district where it happened with the latest for us. stephanie. >> reporter: the good news that people were not seriously hurt, but very devastating for those that live in this blue apartment building. we just saw a couple come back and the woman got emotional. our firefighters have been letting some people go in and take out valuables, but people cannot go back anytime soon. firefighters still investigating what ignited this blaze. it began before 10:00 this morning. in 15 minutes it went from a one alarm to three-alarm fire. firefighters say it appears it started in a common stairwell between the building, and they kicked off an aggressive attack inside and contained it by noon. we spoke with a man whose ground floor business was
